ERGO network

Spolu works closely together with the European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) network. This network currently consists of seven Roma organisations: Roma Active from Albania, Integro from Bulgaria, Roma Progres from Macedonia, Edrom from Turkey, Policy Centre from Romania, Tarna Rom from Moldova and Spolu from The Netherlands. These organisations focus on empowerment, mobilisation and active citizenship of Roma. The ERGO network stimulates full participation of Roma in their own societies and at European level. The network informs its members about developments in European policies and programmes.
The ERGO network started as an umbrella structure for peer learning and trust building among Roma leaders and Roma NGOs in 2003. ERGO members support local Roma leaders to help them to speak up and to promote the interest of grassroots Roma. Since 2006, it has its own staff: Valeriu Nicolae was Executive Director till 2008 and from 2009 ERGO has a professional staff with Biser Alekov and Matthias Verhelst and holds an office in Brussels.

The ERGO network drafted a strategy paper, that elaborates on the philosophy of the network. ERGO network is involved in advocacy activities, campaigning and research.
Spolu was the driving force behind the creation of the ERGO network. Currently, ERGO network is one of the main stakeholders in the `European Roma NGO-landscape`.
Currently, ERGO is conducting a European campaign called `Typical Roma?`. This campaign fights prejudices against Roma and advocates for a better image of Roma across Europe. For more information, please take a look at typicalroma.eu. And become a fan of this campaign here!
